  • Guardian’s Predictions for 2010

    Date: 2010.01.04 | Category: Industry Insight | Response: 0

I started listening to this podcast last Autumn when I got an iPod touch.  I think it’s great, and the definition of the way publishing brands will survive.  It also features my former colleague and all round super nice geek, Robert Andrews, who is UK Editor for ContentNext.

Or download the Podcast for your MP3 player here, or check out The Guardian’s Tech Site.

  • Twitter users backlash against Dominoes Pizza launch

Date: 2010.01.02 | Category: Industry Insight, social networks | Response: 0

So here’s the basic  premise of what happened.  Dominoes added a Twitter widget to their site which was promoting their new pizza.  A Twitter widget is a little window which is added to the site that is instructed to pull up a particular string of live conversations going on inside the Twitter network.  In this case, Dominoes pulled out a string of ‘what people are saying now’ about their new pizza, some of which was good, but much of which was bad, (as seen in the red circles, done by someone I cannot credit as the image was just found on Google).

Either way, we at the CCA don’t believe this was a bad thing.  It was as honest as the ‘word on the street’, because if you stopped 10 people that had tried it, you would predictably get a similar response.  Normally brands try to get this response cleaned up before it hits any mass media vehicles.  But the internet has proven to be a mass media that runs in real-time, and therefore a viral message is being re-published (via Widgets, Re-Tweets, etc) as soon as its posted in a place like Twitter.  Our prediction is that this will not damage their pizza sales, but rather encourage consumers to make up their own mind (as there are still some good comments there).

  • Seth Godin’s New Free E-Book ‘What Matters Now’

    Date: 2009.12.27 | Category: marketing strategy | Response: 0

One marketer we really appreciate here at the CCA is Seth Godin.  His mantra ‘Nobody cares about your business,’ really shook up our world, and the world of a lot of brands.  It further highlights the definitive need for a business to care about it’s customers and target audience in 2010.

In this free e-book, Seth has gathered over 70 big thinkers, to each donate just one page on a particular subject affecting the landscape of a modern business.  It’s a great read, we hope you enjoy it.

  • Review site Yelp offered half a billion by Google?

Date: 2009.12.19 | Category: Industry Insight, Mergers and Aquisitions | Response: 0

Rumours are that Google may be buying review site Yelp for half a billion dollars. They have only just launched in the UK, and therefore aren’t considered in the ‘it’ club of big sites, like Facebook and YouTube (and MySpace, before it got thrown out for not bathing regularly). So if you want a quick round up of Yelp, and it’s strategy, check out the video below from Robert Scoble and Building43.com.
